Unit 1. Activity 1. What is a leader? What is Leadership?

Activity # 1. What is a leader? What is leadership?

a) What does leadership mean to you?

I think leadership is an internal value which everyone have in some way, and can be used or apply in different situations.
Is the capacity that a person have, to engage someone and let people think and do the things they want to, without using the force only with the leader actions.

b) Can you think of some examples of leaders?

GOOD LEADERS:
Francis THE POPE
President OBAMA
NELSON MANDELA
MAHATMA GANDHI
MARTIN LUTHER KING JR

BAD LEADERS:
OSAMA BIN LADEN

I think there are also leaders who used that great aptitud to make people follow them and do thing that for us are not totally good, is my personal opinion, that happends a lot with the religion issue.

c) Think of some leaders you have worked with (formal or informal leaders). Think about one you consider the best. What characteristics did they have?
What about the worst leader?

I have worked with a person who was a fantastic leader, because she was calm and patient, she liked to listen and respect the others opinions and needs, and that’s why everybody followed her because of her actions.

The worst leader, I think is someone of those bossy people who wants to be a leader only because they said so, maybe because they think they deserved or they earned with the charge in the company.

With the group we reflect on the characteristics a good leader may have:

* Listener
* Help in difficulties - helper
* Not afraid
* Empathetic
* Create sense of team work
*Guiding a group
*Having a vision
* Staying in line
* Motivation
* Organization - Flexibility
* Inspiration
* Sense of purpose
* Trust and Transparency

*Knowledge about the job
