Unit 1. Activity 8. LPC questionnaire
Activity 8. LPC questionnaire
•Complete the LPC questionnaire: 1
for the least favourable attribute (e.g. unpleasant), to 8 for the most favourable one (e.g. kind)
•Your final score is the total of
the numbers you circled on the 18 scales
57 or
less: Low LPC (task motivated)
58-63: Middle LPC (socio-independent leaders, self directed and not overly
concerned with the task or with how others view them)
64 or above: High LPC (motivated by relationships
My final score was 88, according to the LCP QUESTIONNAIRE I am in the group of HIGH LCP so I am motivated by relationships. I agree with that because in a job my first thinking is the people, I give much importance to a great work environment and to the relationships between partners and team staff members.
Unit 1. Activity 7. Complete the Jigsaw
Activity 7. Complete the Jigsaw
•Considering the managerial grid
(Blake and Mounton) and the top five leadership styles they define, locate the sentences
provided with the most appropriate style.
We did this activity in groups of three, and we collocate the sentences like in the first image, but later on with the whole group and the teacher we change some sentences to other places, like you can see in the last page.
I liked very much this activity because it let us know a little bit more the different styles of leadership and the characteristics of everyone, according to Blake and Mouton.
Unit 1. Activity 6. Right balance?
Activity 6.
Right balance?
•
Do you think there is a right balance
among these styles?
First of all I have to
say that I don’t understand much this question, because I don’t really know with
what I have to compare the three styles to conclude if there is a right balance
among them, but I am going to answer as I think.
In my personal experience
I think in real life (at work) there are not right balance between this three
styles, during my work experience I have found more Autocratic leaders than
Democratic ones, and never I have worked with a Laissez-Faire leader. In most
of the occasions I think the Autocratic Leader is a person who have a bad
temper, or have lack of knowledge and is afraid to be replaced by the
subordinated.
In some occasions you can
found some Autocratic leader who in some situations change and acts like a
Democratic Leader, but I don’t see a Right balance between these styles.
• What style fits your personality best? Why?
I think the Style who
fits me best is the Democratic one, because I am a very sociable person, who
enjoys a lot talking and listening others, when something occurs I always like
to see the picture in both sides, I think the ideas of others are always value
even when the idea or opinion can be opposite to yours.
I am a person also with a
strong nature, and sometimes I like to take control, but I never do it hurting
people, or something like that.
I am a PEOPLE ORIENTED person.
• What style do you prefer as a leader? What style do you
prefer as a subordinate?
In both cases I prefer
the Democratic style, but I have to recognize that as a subordinate, I am a
person who has some troubles managing with pressure and sometimes I appreciate
an Autocratic leader.
Unit 1. Activity 5. Leadership styles: pros and cons
Leadership styles: pros and cons
•What do you think are the pros and
cons of these styles?
|
LEADERSHIP STYLE
|
PROS
|
CONS
|
|
AUTOCRATIC
|
·
Time effective.
·
Perfect for
some cultures, like Japanese.
·
Perfect for
some chaotic situations.
|
·
Rude
·
Not involve the
group.
·
Don’t know the
group needs.
·
Lack of variety
in ideas or plans.
·
It does not fit
all groups.
|
|
LAISSEZ-FAIRE
|
·
In my opinion
this style have not any pros, because it seems like is not a leader there,
the staff is along.
|
·
Too liberal.
·
It does not fit
all groups.
·
It doesn’t work
for delivering quick results.
·
Can be hard taking
decisions.
·
The Leader as a
person who guide is not there.
|
|
DEMOCRATIC
|
·
Variety in
ideas or plans.
·
Same Vision and
Mission.
·
Great work
environment.
·
The leader
knows the group needs.
·
The group is
motivated.
·
The results and
rewards are for the whole group and not only for the leader.
|
·
It does not fit
all groups.
·
Maybe the goals
can take longer.
·
|
•Do you think each person has one specific leadership style?
No, I think not.
I think that a person or a leader
can change the leadership style according to the situation, but also it is true
that for a person who have an Autocratic style is going to be very hard to become
in a Laissez-Faire leader.
•What style do you consider to be more effective? Why?
For me the more effective style of
leadership is the DEMOCRATIC STYLE, but as I told before not in all the
situations and the groups fit the same style.
But I think that the Democratic
Style is the more recommended style of leadership, in my opinion creates a very
nice environment to work, the staff feels like they belong to something because
their ideas are listened, and they work better, the leader can delegate responsibilities
in the people of the group because he knows their strengths and weaknesses so
he knows what they are capable to do.
I work better with a Democratic
Leader but I also knows that in some situations the group needs some authority.
